I don't care about Joe Meert's spiritual beliefs, but I always thought his opinions on the origins issue fell to the "non-theistic evolution" side of the fence.

Joe, perhaps you can clarify your position?
Sure, I am happy to clarify. It might take some explanation. I was born and raised in the Christian faith (my parents were missionaries in Colombia). At one point in my life, I abandonded the faith and would be properly classified as an atheist. After thinking things through, I thought that agnostic would be a more comfortable philosophical viewpoint, but ultimately found it to be untenable with my personal views. In the past 6 months, I have gone back to my theological roots--so to speak-- and find that a Christian perspective on things is the most philosophically comfortable position. I choose not to discuss my 'conversion' here or on the web except to say that according to the rules of TWEB, I am most assuredly classified as an old earth theistic evolutionist. When I describe myself as such, I am speaking solely from a theological perspective. My science, is, was and always will be atheistic because science is an atheistic pursuit. For the lurkers, let me state that my definition of 'atheistic' science is simply that I cannot from a scientific perspective; test, verify or falsify the existence of a deity. Therefore, from a scientific perspective, I would be classified as an old earth non-theistic evolutionist. I guess I would find myself in complete agreement with Gould's notion of non-overlapping magisteria.

Cheers

Cool

Hey, Joe--it's been a while, eh? Welcome (back) to the fold, so to speak!

This thread has wandered far from any discussion of the issues of evolution, so it has been moved to Miscellaneous Discussions.

Bush and insist he is replying from Air Force One.

If your whole problem is about a person using a screen name and typing in the third person than you have bigger problems than you are letting on being involved in an internet community. After all is your birth name Sauron, will you prove this with a driver's license, is the Ring an honest image representation of who you are or did you lie to the whole internet community about who you really are and look like?

This, of course, was never the issue.

Turkel lied about the reason for his pseudonym. His explanation did not check out. The claims about his prison career, etc. are simply not tenable.

Moreover, for someone who is allegedly so worried about ex-convicts hunting him down, his actions contradict him. He himself revealed his name to people in email on many occasions.

And, of course, anyone who does a whois on his server can find out all kinds of personal information about him - including his address and phone number. Turkel has already given up this information, in so many different ways.

So the idea that Theologyweb is protecting privacy is thus exposed as nonsense. They are protecting anonymity, not privacy. What's the difference? Privacy is keeping things confidential - it's what medical records, or credit reports, should receive. Anonymity is what obscene phone callers and scam artists rely upon. Turkel is the latter, not the former.

Worrying about someone who uses an internet screen name to post on an internet board is assinine in the highest degree.
Not at all. It goes to the question of integrity and motive. Tweb is enabling this behavior, because you provide the camouflage and the forum for it.
