Unhappy Football player collapsed and died in Confederations Cup

Jesus...Marc Vivien-Foe, Cameroon player in Manchester City, collapsed while playing against Columbia in Confederations Cup sem-final. More details here:

This is too fucked. The English Premiership should ought to review their football fixtures...

Rest in peace, Vivien

I dare say that the congested fixture list in this tournament and the 30C+ temperatures in which the games were played in also had something to do with it.

I agree, it's fucked and it should never have happened.

I'd like to see what an autopsy shows. I wonder if he was taking any supplements such as the infamous aphedra (grossly misspleed (sp)). I think they schedule these fixtures as if the players are robots. Perhaps FIFA and UEFA will finally do something about it. I think most of the injuries in football are just mere wear and tear. You can't condition yourself enough to handle a good teams schedule, except for Manchester United, who has a bench deeper than the Pacific Ocean.

I think this has more to do with the Cameroon football authorities than the Premier leauge. The premier leauge runs from mid august until the begining of may-leaving plenty of time for the player to rest during the summer. However,Cameroon have been involved in summer competions for the last 3 years,The african nations cup,the world cup and now the confederations cup.
So Foe has been playing whilst the majority of players have been resting(Apart from the world cup.)

I also think the UK immigration laws need to be looked at.To gain a work permit for non-EU footballers requiers being picked to play for your country in 75% of their international matches. While clubs urge their players to rest during meaningless "friendlies",a lot of African nations insist that all players turn out for them or risk being overlooked next time.
Therefore Foe and a lot of African players have to turn out for their nations or risk losing their work permits.

While I agree with you, only the English Premiership plays around Christmas season while La Liga and Serie A rests at that period.
