No more absurd than any of your statements are, Calzaer. Ever since you registered on these boards, you haven't made one millisecond of f**ing sense. <flame deleted - liv>

Using the "majority-is-right" numbers model, Christians are a minority in Iraq, and India, and Pakistan, and Thailand, and China, and Japan and, if I'm not mistaken, the world.

Of course, the fastest way to eliminate religion is to not indoctrinate children. Pass a law that prohibits young people from attending church /temple/synagogue/mosque until they are old enough to determine for themselves what religion they want to believe in.

Most churches already have an antidote for over zealous believers...boring sermons. Garenteed to put you to sleep everytime.

But seriously, this demonizing of theists is reflecting the same behavior we find abhorrant in their demonizing of homosexuals. Are you sure you want to go that path?

I knew it!!! Of course! That's why Pres. Bush is working so hard to bring religion into our government!!! Yikes!

Right On! All children should be given the opportunity to learn how to use their own mind, to reason, think rationally and make their own decisions. Then if they choose to believe in a god, fine!

However, I don't think religion will ever be completely eliminated as long as there are humans - the only superstitious species on the planet!

*Edit - and also because mental illness or delusional thinking does not necessarily = institutionalization, particularly if the individual is not a danger to themselves or others.
More to the point, if I am suffering from an intense form of psychological delusion so much so that I truly believe I am having a relationship with a mythical creature, then how come I have not been diagnosed as mentally ill?

Peace,

But surely anything which is acceptable as normal by society is, by definition, not a delusion. "Sanity" is merely whatever is tolerable.

I mean, what beliefs are people supposed to have?

If we had a group of psychiatrists medicating away anything which they didn't approve of, how would we be free? That be oppresion in an extreme form. A tyranny of psychiatry

There will much more likely be a drug produced that can cure YOU than a drug produced that will cure the other 5.9 billion people on earth.

Scary beforehand but afterwards you'll be oh, so much happier...

Sounds like 1984 (the book), whether it's religious people medicated to be atheists or atheists medicated to be religious.

If you had a spouse with a different belief/non-belief than you, would you want them on this new medication?

Definately not! I think unless comes to a true disbelief or a true belief, such manipulation of the mind is harmful. I think the subconscious would always be in struggle with the conscious aspect of the mind.
