I cringe every time my wife tells me she is cooking dinner. She can't cook. Everything is either fried or swimming in oil and grease.
How would you like some bacon fried in butter? Better yet, how about a pan of red potatos stewing in 2 cups of vegetable oil? Making tacos? Don't bother draining that ground beef and go ahead and pour a cup of water in there too.
I have seen this woman eat the entire skin of a roasted 8 pound chicken. Any one who can do that should not be allowed to cook.

I use to cook all the time before I met my wife. I make some mean bbq'd chicken, and at first my wife was happy to share the cooking chores with me. But then as the kids got older, she realized that they liked my cooking better. I'd brag about how damn fine my chicken was so I earned the title from my kids "The Chicken King". I think that pissed my wife off, so she goes out of her way to make sure I don't cook anymore.
But still, when she makes any kind of chicken my middle daughter always let's her know that it's not "Chicken King good".

My aunt cooks that way. She literally greases the pan with Crisco when she's making bacon. Everything she makes has an old fashioned flavor to it because that's how they use to cook back in the days before real health consciousness. But the difference between you and I is that I like that way of cooking. I would never eat it all the time, but I sure don't mind eating her food during the holidays.

We worked this one out. I am the *grill king*. If it's not raining too hard or not too dark and we're having any kind of meat, I grill it. Otherwise, she cooks. We all prefer grilled meat over fried, baked or broiled so there is no jealousy, that just happens to be *my* job. My wife usually prepares everything to go with the entree.

I don't attempt sphagetti or lasagna, but I barbecue a pretty mean meatloaf, after the wife mixes and forms it of course.

Grill King aka da man aka Master of my domain aka dacockanddaballs!

My girlfriend and I have come to an arrangement. I cook all the meals and she does all the baking.

I was fortuante enough to attend culinary academy so I am very comfortable in the kitchen but I can't even bake a cake out of a box. Cookies, pies and breads seem to escape me as well.

Her on the other hand can put together some the best stuff I have ever had. The pumpkin pie she made for Thanksgiving was the best I have ever seen or had. It could have won a contest.

I used to do alot of grilling but have recently discovered a better way to cook a steak. Take a cast iron skillet and get it white hot. Put a little bit of oil on the steak and drop it in the skillet. Sear it on both sides for about 2 minutes each side. Then pop it in a oven preheated to about 350 for 5 to 15 minutes depending on how you like it cooked. The best steak you will ever have.

Down South we fry everything. We even fry cornbread and corn. That is some good shit. But I don't like to eat fried stuff all of the time though. When I have a girlfriend (don't have one now) they think I am doing it because of them and they think it is sweet, so what the hell huh.

Hm. I think it's kind of weird, but I only have my situation to compare it to. My boyfriend and I cook together most of the time. I've not given much thought to who's the better cook. Occasionally i'll cook or he'll cook, and we do things differently, each more suited to our own tastes.

I'd say maybe try cooking with the girlfriend, maybe showing her how you like it. That might come off as insulting, though. i don't know. I guess just find a girl that doesn't like to cook, maybe one that really likes to clean toilets.

I've got the same basic arrangement as ex-idaho, though my sweetie also does chocolate truffles (Alice Medrich/Cocolat recipe) and mainly bakes chocolate stuff.

I do a little baking of a few signature items, but seem to do better as a daily cook.

Don't forget the Ultimate IIDB Recipe thread - no one's been adding any recipes recently.

There's nothing wrong with fried food, at least not taste-wise. Bacon grease makes lots of stuff taste better.

cheers,
Michael
