There is a definite pattern. It seems like all the numbers that are involved in my daily life seem to almost without fail be positive or negative!
Who knew? |

You forgot the zero. :-) (But I assume it belongs to "almost all".)

(My first post here, by the way).
I'm constantly seeing the number 111. It's everywhere- on the clock, on my speedometer, hotel room doors, my classroom, etc. My aunt says that I have some sort of spiritual power, however, being a skeptic I'm always looking for a more rational, plausible explination. Why am I seeing this number everywhere? Your guess is probably as good as mine. |

When I was little I was always looking for interesting patterns in whatever numbers I saw, especially times on the clock. I used to assign them values based on how interesting I found them. 12:34 became my favorite time--the royal flush of times--and it always made me happy when I happed to look at the clock and see it was 12:34. I also liked 12:48 quite a bit, and 3:14 is kind of cool in an uncool, nerdy way. Yeah, I know, I'm weird. It was this little quirk of mine that led me to make the observation (well, I found it surprising at the time that I hadn't noticed it before and that no one had ever told me about it) when I was eight or nine that you could rewrite the string 12345678 as a set of mathematical relations: 12 = 3*4, 56 = 7*8. Sadly, it was only when I finally learned algebra a few years later that I was able to show the pattern didn't continue, that these were the only two solutions to satisfy the equation n*10 + (n+1) = (n+2)(n+3).
Despite my fondness for number patterns, I never found the same numbers coming up again and again. I did have a friend in college, however, who maintained that he always somehow looked at the clock when it was 12:12. He would actually get mad, saying something like "God damnit, it's 12:12! Why do I always look when it's 12:12?" |

here's a weird superstition.... if you look at the clock and it shows the exact time...like 20:00 it means that somebody is thinking of you, his name beggining with the letter that counts to that number on the clock...
so 10:00 means L. the stupid part was that the day had only 24 hours... and there's more letters in the alfabet. not to mention that i never seemed to wake up at 3 am ....but since that i became more skeptical....and the memories of my superstitious infested days... blush |

First of all, welcome to the forums! As for the number 111, my guess is that because it is such an immediately recognizable number - unlike 739 or 541 - you will notice it far more frequently than any other number. I had a debate with my dad about choosing '123' or '666' on a "pick three" lottery. He argued that those numbers never come up. I said that maybe 657 never comes up either. Of course, he swore that every number I mentioned had come up. The bottom line was that he was likely to remember 123 coming up, and therefore knew it had not. He would not likely remember 918 coming up. When I was engaged, I began to see wedding ads everywhere. When we were thinking of buynig a Volvo, it seemed that the streets suddenly became packed with them. Try this... You will see the word "king" or the symbolism representing "king" at many turns this week. Count on it. |
