Thumbs up Bill Walton on the November elections

I never watch the NBA, and don't watch much tv at all so it's kind of bizarre I happened to cath this... But as soon I clicked it on, these sports analysts were discussing the nba all-star selections, and Bill Walton said something I had to relay to iidb. He said, "Just like the November elections, they got it wrong." He's always over the top, but that perhaps inappropriate but righteous analogy--albeit a tiny morsel of the helpings we should be receiving from the media--gave me great delight.

This one comment probably won't start the Socialist Revolution, but it's always good to mention these things to this sort of audience because there won't be a revolution without "common" (for want of a better term) people, myself included. For those of us in the choir, it keeps us energized. And, imo, we can no longer worry about what's "appropriate" and what isn't.

It will be interesting to see the fallout. Will rabid conservatives boycott ABC's NBA sponsors and Walton's satellite radio show? Should he now reconsider flying in airplanes?

I personally dislike Bill Walton as a commentator (a huge Lakers suckup), but I am surprised he made such a bold statement on TV. Although I am bit skeptical about what he actually meant by that statement. If he actually did mean that the general population made another mistake just like November elections, then thumbs up to Bill Walton. He still sucks at commentating though.

As you report it, that comment is consistent with the idea that so-called experts made bad predictions about how the voting would turn out -- also an alleged feature of the Nov elections, at least from the exit polls.

I like Walton. Sure outrageous things come out of his mouth but he doesn't take himself too seriously. A lot of the time he is deliberately over the top. Sometimes it gets on my nerves but I'll take him over any buttoned down announcer who only repeats the same safe clichés.

Given what Sir Charles gets away with on TNT I would guess this won't stir up too much controversy.

Many years ago I remember seeing Bill Walton playing on a celebrity version of Wheel of Fortune. Somehow he managed to make it to the final round, and was there with Pat Sajak to guess the final puzzle.

Pat: "Now we just need you to guess 3 consonants and a vowel."
[Normally, contestants will give 3 consonants and vowel, in that order.]
Bill [In a long, drawn-out groan]: "Aaaaa"

Pat looks around a bit awkwardly, and says:
"Ok, we have a vowel, and now we just need 3 consonants."

Bill: "Eeeee"

After some help from Pat, Bill eventually managed to identify 3 consonants.

It's just a 3-hour show in which he plays live Grateful Dead and other jambands. He's been a Deadhead since the 60's, and traveled all over with them. For instance, in 1978, he saw their shows in Egypt.

Kenny Smith was discussing the evolution of Lebron James (I think) and Barkley sarcastically scolded him saying "you can't talk about evolution or teach it in schools in Georgia."
