I'm in need of ftp software. I'm busy, and not very tech savvy, so it needs to be simple to understand and set up. And preferably free, or really cheap.
I also want something that has little to no spyware, etc. attached to it. |

What do you mean, "ftp software"? You mean software to transfer files via FTP? What platform?
The "ftp" program that comes with Windows, all BSD Unix, and everyone else, is certainly *usable*. |

I've always been a fan of CuteFTP, myself. I'm a globalscape fan...

We don't want to compress them because they are for print and we need to retain quality. So, I need for him to be able to upload the files, and I need to be able to go & retrieve them. |

If you're using Windows, you can simply open Internet Explorer and type "ftp://domain.com" (insert actual domain, obviously) and IE will open an FTP session. It's not particularly well-featured, but it's simple enough to drag files to for upload. I think IE for Mac will work the same way.

Hmm. I don't recall whether Putty's FTP client can do non-SSL FTP, but...
Have your client use the command prompt. C:\> ftp ftp> open ftp.example.com Name and password required for example.com: Name: anonymous Password: [email protected] Logged in, access restrictions apply. ftp> binary Mode set to binary. ftp> put fuckinghuge.jpg (long pause) 29,999,999 bytes sent in 3.75 years (too slow) ftp> quit C:\> It's there, it's easy, and as long as you remember binary mode, it's as good as anything. |

I recommend FileZilla. It's open-source, freeware and runs on Windows. It supports alternate FTP ports and passive transfers and has a quick-connect feature.
I've used CuteFTP and it was pretty good too, but shareware irritates me. |
