Looks like two separate and opposing thoughts.
No, that's just a wink to all the bigots who say something like: "I have nothing against blacks. However, <insert two paragraphs of Black-bashing>". Rinse and repeat with the minority of your choice.

It seems the major majority of people are leftists, not just here but I think in general. Problem is the mass media seems pretty much dominated by the right who manage to persuade the fence sitters quite easily (who may be on the left in general - not that they know - but hear an opinion on an issue they can relate too and thus vote in wanker conservatives). Then again I'm probably way off the mark, with racist right wing governments in my own country and a largely racist population supporting them. Then you have the religious right and so on. Maybe this natural leftist slant I keep seeing is more indicative of the younger population rather than old conservative dinosaurs from a bygone era that need to...well die.

Von E's political compass:

Economic Left/Right: -5.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.23

Which puts me pretty close to Red Ken, w00t! I feel honoured in such company, folks. And it's good to see that leaving uni and getting a job hasn't pushed me too far to the right.

Oh, and I do not consider "liberal" to be synonymous with "left-wing". After all, here in Holland, the liberals are traditionally the largest right of centre party, and in the UK, they held the centre ground for many years.

Doesn't "liberal" mean pro-capitalism free-marketeer in Europe? At least, that's the meaning it has in French.

In Europe a liberal is someone who believes in liberty and freedom. In the US, it's a leftist ideology concerned with welfare and lessening inequality.

I agree with my results, but the questions are loaded and the answers could be misread.

My Authoritarian/Libertarian should be more negative ~ -8.0

It would be nice to graph your position over time. Mine is close to going full circle.

Simply put, no.

Many liberals in the European sense are quite conservative on social issues (e.g. same-sex marriages).
