I thought I would start this as a counterpart to Krieger's PC Games thread. What is your favorite console...
RPG? 2D action game? 3D (third-person) action game? Epic (Zelda-style adventure games)? First-person shooter? Horror game? Sports game? Fighting game? Other (doesn't fit in the above categories)? Also, what games are you playing now, and what is your overall favorite console game? I've left out graphic adventures, strategy, and simulations, since just about all of them I know of are ports from the PC, but if I'm wrong, or if I've left out a category, feel free to mention one. My picks: RPG: Lunar 2: Eternal Blue 2D Action: Tie between Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night 3D Action: Devil May Cry Epic: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past FPS: Goldeneye Horror: Silent Hill (haven't finished it, though) Sports: Don't play 'em. Fighting: Street Fighter II Other: Undecided- haven't played that many "others." I've recently finished Treasure Hunter G, and I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VI- something I first played years ago, but that I never finished. My overall favorite game is probably Lunar 2. {EDIT: Added the Fighting Game category} |

RPG: Final Fantasy VIII
3D (third-person) action game: Metal Gear Solid 2 First-person shooter: I generally cannot stand FPSs on consoles but DOOM II on GBA is rather good. Horror game: Silent Hill 1 and 2 Sports game: Speedball 2 Fighting: Soul Calibur |

Fighting Game: Soul Caliber.
PERIOD. No arguments. This game has everything. Great characters. No stupid fire ball type moves. Weapons. Diversity of game play. 3D movement that is necessary. several levels of playing. A game that you truly get better at, meaning some masher won't beat someone good jsut hitting buttongs. Super-fluidity. Best RPG: Final Fantasy 6. |

I agree with everyone who said first-person shooters are usually pretty lousy on consoles... I do like Goldeneye (despite its flaws), but most are just... feh. |
