nogods4, yeah that one always "cracks me up", too. Methinks that would be a suitable reply.

Quote:
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some youths came out of the town and jeered at him. "Go on up, you baldhead!" they said. "Go on up, you baldhead!" 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD . Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths. 25 And he went on to Mount Carmel and from there returned to Samaria.
Hahahaha, isn't that funny? Especially the way he just carried on after 42 children are mauled at his command. I'd laugh, too! Those bear maulings are just too funny for words.

I think you could examine that joke and use it to explain how truly cruel the Christian God is. I mean, that is quite a twisted joke. Someone, His own child, calls out to him for help and he(god), instead, saves the bear. Allowing the bear salvation and not the atheist. Hmmmmm...quite cruel, if you ask me.

I dunno; I actually think a version of the joke is kind of funny. The way I first heard it involved an atheist swimming and being attacked by a shark who is then converted, but it wasn't nearly as long and detailed, and the beginning (where the atheist exclaims joy at the beauty of nature) was absent entirely.

That said, the elaborations in this one seem specifically designed to sneer at atheists, rather than just trying to be funny. Send her Kissing Hank's Ass in return.

Funny how [atheist] bears don't *eat* humans.

Only the Xn ones do.

- What is the difference between God and Santa Claus?
- Santa Claus exists.

IMHO, that bear joke gives a really brutal picture of Christianity. Actually, when it appeared on another discussion board (as a little different version, maybe), many people seemed to consider it a pro-atheist joke

Oh, I forgot to point out the joke implies that the righteous and holy(Christian) bear is then allowed, by God, to kill and eat the atheist(unbeliever).

It's a cute story. Too bad it exposes the same contempt for certain human beings that resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent people by true believers on 9/11...

Right! If this was sent in good humor, then fine. I've gotten that mail before. But it upset me even when I was a Christian. But I have heard other versions of this that were much funnier.
