Default This Administration may be Starting to Believe Its Own Lies

In an embarrasing and telling moment, Ari Fleischer was laughed out of a press conference and strode out, tail bewteen legs, in a shameful display of dishonesty and denial.

Fleischer was basically challenged on the idea that the U.S. President is pulling out all the stops, including using bribes, to get his way in the U.N. and to form a "coalition of the willing." Fleischer angrily retorted that to suggest that the leaders of nations are "buyable" on a matter of such grave morality (haha!) was an unacceptable concept. The press room immediately burst into laughter, as well they should have.

If Fleischer believes what he said, he is a total idiot and should be fired. Otherwise, we can only assume that he either just totally screwed this up or that he's a comitted and habitual liar to the point where he just cannot stop lying, and so pushes it past the point of deniability.

Take a look at this video (Real Player). You must move to about two minutes before the end to catch it.

Ari Fleischer Laughed out of Press Conference.

Sadly, Fleischer's approach is an all too common characteristic of some of the discussion here and in general. If an elephant is in the room, you just ignore it, no matter how absurd this makes you look.

Damm, that is kind of funny. Really does that sort of thing happen often? I wonder if any mass media mentioned it later?

Thanks a lot Zar, now I'm going to turn the TV on corporate media and get lied to for a while. I can barely stand it already.

I force myself to watch a little corporate media almost everyday, but somehow I never saw the new Donahue show, so I can't really say anything about him getting canned.

"I don't think Saddam Hussein is a legitimate leader, no. Is he elected by his people?" - Ari Fleischer, Feb. 26, 2003.

I agree wholeheartedly. But with an added observation: that fact-----that nations can be and are regularly "bribed" at the UN Security Council and (presumably)other international conclaves-- is why this whole a multilateral-approach-is-always- better claim is a lot of hooey. Watching/reading about real multilateralism is like watching sausages being made: not a pretty sight. Which is why there's a lot to be said for unilateralism.

Cheers!

I am unable to get to the link...could be because I'm at work. Is there a text version somewhere?
