Default US and Germany

Here some new american responses to Germanys refusal to start a preemtive war on a helpless country based on zero evidence:
(translated back from german)

Rumsfeld:
"Then there are 3 or 4 countries who have said the would do nothing" said rumsfeld talking about rebuilding Iraq after the war, "I think those are Libya, Cuba and Germany ...."

Daniel Coats (US embassador in Germany):
"We expect from a friend and ally not to impede us" said Coats and hinted at possible economic consequences. In the US " serious doubts have come up if Germany is still a reliable partner".
This is damaging the relations, "and certainly it is damaging for Germany"

This is the kind of "diplomacy" that's practiced towards an ally.

For the last few years american politicians, following the example of their leader, have been displaying a very endearing mixture of infantility and brain damage, that is almost certain to ensure international goodwill and demotivation of terrorists for decades to come.
I really hope american voters will appreciate this.

Old Europe strikes back. I don't know if this is the result of Rumsfeld diplomacy but it looks that way.

Quote:
U.S. officials are furious at France and Germany for reportedly developing a new proposal to extend United Nations weapons inspections in Iraq, as trans-Atlantic tensions over how best to disarm Saddam Hussein continue to worsen.

According to U.S. officials, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld asked German Defense Minister Peter Struck about the plan after German media outlined its proposals but was told Berlin was not ready to discuss the plan with Washington. A senior U.S. official later told reporters the French-German tactic was not the way to have a winning hand with Washington....

Although German and French officials would not publicly discuss details of their reported plan, the magazine Der Spiegel said it would triple the number of inspectors and deploy U.N. troops throughout Iraq.

That's one idea...filling Iraq with UN troops would make it difficult to drop bombs without serious consequences.
