Talking If you have a PS2, you NEED to try this game!

The game is Burnout 2. It's a racing (arcade-ish) game. And it's the most fun I've had with a video game since Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (haven't played 3, but I've played a little of the demo of 4.) I got a demo disc with the Burnout 2 demo, and quickly found myself playing for hours.

Basically, you race through streets with traffic on them. You have a "boost" gauge - put it out of your head for a moment what a turbo engine and boost is REALLY supposed to do, please - that fills up as you drive wrecklessly, by nearly hitting traffic, driving in the wrong lane, or drifting through curves.

The full game also has some other bonuses. Pursuit mode is a cop-chase mode (and FWIW, Pursuit 2 in the championship game is freakin' hard...frustratingly so. ). Then there's the ultra-sweet Crash Mode, in which you deliberately attempt to cause as large a wreck as possible.

And the graphics are downright beautiful.

Burnout 2 is one helluva fun game. Try it. Now.

If you have a PC, try Midtown Madness 1 and 2. They're a little older, but I still they're the best driving games out there. In MM1 you get to terrorize the streets of Chicago and in MM2 it's San Francisco and London. Not as many gameplay modes, but just cruising the streets in a sweet ride is tons of fun. You can set how much traffic and how many cops you want in the game, or you can turn them off and just hone your ability to maneuver the streets at 150 mph.

I've been playing these games for three years and they still look good.

Hmmm, and I was so close to picking up Hot Pursuit 2... have you tried HP2? Do you think Burnout 2 is better? I really don't need two racing games.

Sorry, no, I haven't. The last NFS game I've really played is Need for Speed 3, which I loved...I guess the best thing to do would be to rent both and see which you enjoy more.

Pick up Hot Pursuit 2. You won't regret it. The feeling of speed is incredible. IMO, the last great Need For Speed game was Hot Pursuit (1). This goes back to those roots, with an incredible array of companies liscensing their cars out to the game. It's a blast.
