By the time of the Exodus the Pyramid complex was an ancient ruin. The Kings were then buried in underground vaults in the Valley of the Kings.
The Old Kingdom of the Pyramid builders collapsed around 2000 BCE. So if you follow Bible History the Pyramids would have been built Before Abraham, so yes, there were no Jews then.
Jewish slaves were claimed to have built The City of Ramses, nowhere near Giza.

Thanks galiel for your generous help. Anyway, forgive my ignorance but why is Korfu(who was he anyway) known as the ManGod? Did he have any distinct features that separated him from other 'normal' people of his time?

All Pharoahs were considered divine beings, actual Gods on Earth. I don't know that he was called "the ManGod", although it does have a nice Saturday Morning Cartoon sound to it. "ManGod vs. the Forces of Reason. Sponsored by Pepsi Cola".

Or maybe pay-pe-view wrestling on cable, if it were sponsored by the 700 Club (bear with me, this will end up somewhere, even if I have no idea where at the moment). "Ladies and Gentlemen, in this shining corner, festooned with the Stars and Stripes, American hero, good Christian and Rhodes scholar Hulk Hogan" (cheers). "In that dirty, poorly lit corner over there, the Blasphemous ManGod Saddam Hussein, Focus of All Evil in the World and a man who never writes his mother." (boos)

Anyway, Korfu was the megalomaniac behind the construction of the Great Pyramid and many other monuments to himself.

As to any "special features" he may have possessed, I guess you'll have to ask Mrs. Korfu about that.

Ancient Egyptian culture was big on the afterlife, even bigger thant Christianity. Basically, everything done in this "shadow" life was a preparation for the "real" eternal life in the land of the dead, where Elvis, Jesus, and J. Edgar Hoover walked into a bar, and Elvis said....

No, wait, that is another forum.

If I remember right he was the first 'living god' pharoah. All of them were considered divine, but he was the first to claim divinity during life. His predecessors were considered to not actually become gods until they'd died, during life they were more along the lines of divine mortals.

Hyzer,

Actually, do you know how much air flow is impeded by rough surfaces in a duct? Check the ASHRAE HANDBOOK OF FUNDAMENTALS, 2001. Briefly, the answer is a lot. So, no, I don’t think the Egyptian designers wasted any time having the air shafts lined with polished stone – in fact, I’d say it makes sense.

You are correct. Just look inside a modern air duct.
The only problem I have is that they had no forced draft fans, and it makes only sense to have polished walls when you have air velocity.
I think that for natural ventilation, the wall rougness isn't very important.
All of the above of-course if the walls were really polished because I haven't read that anywhere.

And by the way, why would you make yourself a living god? Well it makes a lot of sense. Just being a living god reinforces your wordly authority more than just a little bit.
This is why the worldly authorities have in many occasions associated themselves with religion, like the Hole Roman empire etc , etc.

To galiel – excellent post, excellent points (“The two hours of "suspense" were filled with wonderful examples of deductive science at work, in a way the average "Joe" never sees. Brilliant forensics, . . . .” ) . I agree, for Fox, the show had many good points (at the first commercial break, when my wife saw that it was on Fox, she rolled her eyes, to which I replied, “relax, I don’t think that they are going to suggest that the pyramids were built by space aliens” ) .

Regarding who built the pyramids (the Egyptians, not slaves), this assertion has been the consensus among Egyptologists for a considerable time. The show might have presented that idea to a large audience, but it is not a new understanding.

Regarding the shafts – the great pyramid has large rooms higher up inside the pyramid than any other (in fact, rooms high up was not the norm, and even the great pyramid has an unfinished lower, original chamber) . Hot air rises. When the interior of the pyramid was explored by westerners in the 1800’s, they noted how hot is was and hard to breathe after a considerable amount of time inside. When the opening to the shafts were discovered on the inside of the upper (“king’s” ) chamber, the explorers scoured the exterior of the north and south faces and removed stones until they found the shafts’ connections to the exterior (remember the limestone casing that would have covered any trace of the shafts on the ‘perfect’ exterior facades was long gone, having been stripped for use in other building projects). Immediately upon opening the shafts fully, air began to flow through the pyramid, entering below, rising up the grand gallery to the king’s chamber and exiting up the shafts. Today there are small electrical fans in the shafts to facilitate air flow (for the thousands of tourists – and BTW, archeologists have stated repeatedly that the perhaps the greatest threat to the wall paintings in the tombs in the Valley of the Kings is from the moisture laden air expelled by visitors ).

The geometry of the shafts (angle of inclination) has been the subject of much speculation. However, I have read a rather exhaustive and (to me) convincing geometrical analysis of the angles of each shaft and that suggests a very parsimonious conclusion: the angle that each shaft takes is a resultant, i.e., the designer/builders ran the shafts on the angle that would take them on the shortest line to the exterior to the level that they were then completing. The Queen's Chamber is situated in the center (in plan, viewed from above) of the pyramid. The angles of the two shafts are within 1 degree of each other. The equality of the angles means that the shafts would have emerged at the same level in the casing on the north and south sides of the pyramid - a design of no consequence for the “star-shafts” theory. The King’s Chamber is not in the center of the pyramid and the angles differ, and they differ by the exact amount so that the two shafts would have emerged at the exact same level in the casing (again, the casing is gone for the most part today). Each air shaft has a “kink”, a horizontal section at the beginning, further killing the “star-shafts” theory.

In summary – air movement would have been important inside the pyramid for the builders just as it is today for tourists. The upper chambers are devoid of air movement without the benefit of the shafts.
