It is amazing how rude people can be to Starscream. One problem is that, as a mod, you can see how many warnings someone has - which makes warnings into self-fulfilling prophecies.

Dude, if you get harassed via PM, report it to the mods. The no flaming rule is *not* suspended in PM's.

Here's now another moderator decided to play "blame the victim".

1. After Louis Booth decides that moral decline is correlated with race and religion, about six people jumped on him to either explain or retract his statement.

2. Louis played little fuck-fuck games for about 20 posts - never explaining, nor retracting, nor anything except asking OTHER people what they thought.

3. Then he claims he was misunderstood by people who read too much into his twisted post.

So then one of the other moderators comes to his rescue:

Thanks for the info, I'll keep that in mind.

You know, I really hate having to tattle-tale on people like I'm in grade school or something but I feel like the cards are so stacked against me there that I'm not sure what else to do.

It's too bad, I really do enjoy the conversations I have over there (regardless of the crap I receive from cenimo and some other outspoken memebers) but I don't have much confidence in the staff.

And check the fucking guy that closed the thread. He's very disappointed that people actually responded to all that horseshit, instead of snivelling around behind people's backs. They don't want you to respond to insults, lies, racism, gay bashing, making snide remarks about others' degree of faith, etc., but they want to create a little culture of backstabbers, weasels, and ratbastards.

It really is disgusting when you think about it, and aside from a few bright spots, most of whom have posted in this thread at one time or another, I'm actually glad they fucking banned me.

There comes a point where it is no longer appropriate to assume that someone's harassing or abusive posts were not intentional, and are a mere misunderstanding. JaelfromFR's posts are amazing to me; I have rarely seen so much hate and bigotry ensconced in a single person.

I do think there's a real underlying problem with the tendency to stick up for fellow Christians even when they're wrong. I think it comes from a fear of making the faith look bad, but I don't think any idiocy, however great, could make Christianity look as bad as the closing-ranks thing does. People are used to idiots, but rampant hypocrisy and dishonesty will always stand out at least a little.

I think Christianity's case is much more compelling when people admit up front that Christians can be jerks and idiots. When people deny that there are Christians who are hypocritical idiots, bigots, and whatnot, and then you meet some, the only rational conclusion is that the whole thing is full of people who are unable to see immoral behavior when it's right in front of them (or behind them, more likely)... which sort of kills any credibility Christians could have as judges of moral issues.

The desire to pretend that your side is perfect is understandable, but that doesn't keep it from being stupid.
