I guess the lack of smilies in the post pointing out my grammatical problem made me wonder whether the poster was being genuine or light hearted, so I apologise for the anal nature of my response.
Consider it forgotten, Adrian. We all have bad days.

Oh, and I've never been a big smiley fan, partially because I don't usually use facial expressions IRL to cue people in that I'm joking, anyway. So...I do run into this problem with people who don't know my personality yet, particularly on discussion boards.

Nice to meet you.

Howdy Adrian!

I'm of the opinion that good satire (like Boro Nut's) doesn't need smilies to explain itself. Apparently mine just isn't very good.

I'll work on it....

It's not just that I have no idea how to add one, it's more a case of not wanting to give the game away. Have you any idea how long it takes me to type these bloody things, blowing down this fucking silly little tube? It's only the hope of receiving replies like NPM's that make my pathetic shallow existence anything like bearable. The only downside is when I get a bite I tend to get excited and shit my ventilator, and my carer isn't due with the mop bucket for another four hours. Still, its not an unpleasant sensation, as I can't feel my legs.

Boro Nut

PS can anyone lend me 50 pence? The meter has just run out and its dark in here...cough...splutter

I take it that you haven't had much experience with bus timetables.

Scientists & comedians alike have long speculated about the unusual ocean currents beneath the Pacific & Atlantic which act as powerful irony-filters.

Magnetic vortices in the region of Germany are thought to have similar effect.

BN, couldn’t afford the 50p (what with the exchange rates & all) so I’ve posted you a pleasant obituary in the death notices.

which way do the currents run echidna? i find it odd that so much american humour is based around satire, and the dry ironic comment, we see it in friends and frasier most prominently over here, yet ordinary americans, as evidenced in a series of louis theroux documentaries simply didn't understand his disingenuous and ironic approach, i.e. they took every comment at face value.

Having said that, much of the UK was outraged by the excellent satirical tv series brass eye, particularly the outrageous paedophilia episode.

i appreciate this post is totally off topic

Friends & Frasier ? Personally I’d rate them both as pretty sledgehammer in-your-face humour, not that there’s anything wrong with that of course. But not a whole lot of subtlety, and more sarcasm than irony. Seinfeld & Simpsons, now they’re ironic at times. They still don't compare to the levels of say Palin's & Jones's Ripping Yarns.
