Is god male or female or neuter or E.T.?
What do you think? Why do you think Christianity and Islam always refer to god as HIM never as HER? Or do they? Have your say here. -Shankar Freedom for Blasphemy |

I'll go with Shemale. It's more equal opportunity, somehow.

The following is my humble understanding of why God chooses for himself the pronouns of "He, I, and We" in the Qur'an.
…one solid mass that We exploded into parting (79:30) and We made out of water every living thing… Likewise, He it is Who designed well the Sky when it was Smoke… God is beyond our comprehension, the created cannot fathom the creator. To try to understand His essence is impossible. There are things which we can explain, yet not understand, for instance infinity can be described as something that goes on forever, yet to imagine infinity is impossible. The limitations of our minds allow us to see, comprehend, imagine only that which has boundaries. So the question that must be asked is, where did the idea of infinity originate? It seems that everyone can say the word and describe the definition, yet it is beyond our complete understanding. If one can describe infinity, yet not comprehend infinity, then the idea must come from beyond one’s comprehension- the infinite, ie, God. In my humble opinion, the infinite energy, God, created the finite energy, everything else. When the infinite communicates with the finite, the infinite must use ideas that the finite can understand. Can you train a bear to sit by just telling him to sit? No, you must use antics and conditioning that the bear understands. This is why God is always mentioned as “He?. We cannot fathom a genderless entity, and of the genders we understand, the male is the stronger. We are in awe of Kings and Emperors with iron fists and just rule. We fear, admire, and respect them. So a male God, a King of Kings, is easier for us to understand than a female God. Likewise, we are limited in our understanding of existence. Everything we know to exist has tangible boundaries. Mountains have peaks and bases, clouds form and disentegrate, and the oceans have bottoms and shores. No person can be in 2 places at the same time. These are laws and limits that we know. Omnipresence is difficult to imagine, and impossible to comprehend. How can something be everywhere at the same time when all tangible things have boundaries? So when the boundless communicates with the bounded, the terms of understanding must also be bounded. The use of “I? in the Qur’an indicates the authority of the one true infinite, boundless God. He is the King of Kings, the One to turn to when we are desperate, the One to fear when we have strayed, and the One deserving of all admiration when we bear witness to all that He has created. He is The Most Benificent, the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving, the Most Loving, the Most Worthy of all praise. The use of “We? indicates the omnipresence of of God. It is a term we can understand. When an army of millions of soldiers storms into a foreign land, they seem to be everywhere. Their line fills the horizon, their planes fill the sky. They are millions of parts of one entity. These are terms we can “see?. In my humble opinion, that is why God chose to use “We? as a common description of His infinite Omnipresence. We’ve never witnessed Omnipresence so our closest understanding of one entity being everywhere is one entity made of many parts. |

God cannot be female, since he's perfect.
![]() Seriously, although I don't believe in Him, I think that attributing a sex to a supernatural being should be considered blasphemous. |

God in Judeo/Christian tradition has no gender. Jesus obviously does, but God as a whole does not. The "he" pronoun is generally used when refering to the "Provider" aspects of God, but there are a couple passages in the OT which refer to God in the female tense, specifically when looking at God as a Nurturer. Essentially, God is seen as caring for us, so we compare God to our parents by applying their gender to Him/Her.

The big question: WHICH GOD?
The Judeo-Christian one? I think it has no gender. Cool religious feature: the god/goddess of Sikhism is genderless. It is a she/he. ![]() T. |

Personally, I'd rather go with one of the Hindu-variant religions that worship God as a woman, and who consider a female orgasm, however it's obtained, to be the greatest spiritual state.
