Ah, that is one of my favorite books on the subject of the NT, Vorkosigan. In fact, anything by Koester is gold. His NT introduction (see Recommended Reading) comes in two parts, the first of which is a wide-ranging overview of the Hellenistic age that is the background of primitive Christianity.
