I just don't believe that I read that. I thought that rationality was a prerequisite for a member of the bench.

I really don't mind WTC victims getting the money, but I'm curious who was acting as attorney for the defendant - did they just have a blow-up doll sitting in opposing counsel's chair?

Maybe us II'ers should file a class-action suit against Iraq too for ... umm ... making non-xians look bad and bringing on the apocalypse!

Appeal? Heheh. The families will be paid as soon as we start selling the Iraqi oil to pay for the war.

I really don't mind them getting rich off 9-11 either. But I suspect this was set up to keep them from suing the U.S. Government for 10 times that - a pretty embarrassing scenario for Uncle Sam but very possible nonetheless.

And that was just for the families of two victims. There are potentially 1500+ more cases (3000+ victims/2 victim per case = 1500+ cases) that could get the same type of ruling given that the evidence would essentially be the same. So much for the slogan "Iraqi oil is for the Iraqi's".

BTW why do so many civil cases in America have such arbitrary dollar amounts? Is there some kind of accounting method for this or do lawyers just pull a number out of their asses that they hope the judge will go for?
