Anyone know of a data analysis/software engineer position open in the Boston area, or just a good company to check out?

I would think an employer would be impressed by the fact that I have had responsibility for nearly every facet of building a computer network, from planning to purchasing, and from configuration to deployment, but employers seem more interested in how many years you've put in working with a single technology. Ugh. :banghead:
They want you to be "trained" in the technology they use, completely disregarding the fact that all their stuff is proprietary or custom made for them, so even someone who has used the same systems somewhere else will have to be trained on the new company's setup. Flexibility and the ability to learn new things quickly should be much more valued in the technical field than they are.

If I may, I'll add my 1-1/2 cents of advice:

[] Both of you: if you don't have huge commitments to the area you're in right now, this might be a good time to explore moving somewhere cleaner/safer/less congested, etc.
Seebs already lives there.

I suppose I ought to define what I meant.... In my case, a town with one stop-light and fewer than 5,000 people. (But, a modern hospital, modern library, high-speed internet provider, two local cell-phone companies, two grocery stores, etc. etc.)

Seebs & anyone else looking for work, I've got a couple of recruiters calling me on a regular basis. If you want, send me a resume' and I'll pass it on. Different kinds of computer stuff, mostly programming related.

Here's the catch: I'm an contract engineer. That means excellent pay, no benefits, generally short term duration (though I've been with my current client for over two years), and you have to be willing to relocate. I know of work in Albuquerque, Phoenix, and possibly Tucson.

The other catch: Some (not all) of the best paying stuff is DOD related. So, if you're a bleeding-heart-liberal, anti-war, pot-smoking hippy, you probably won't be a good fit for those jobs. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Republican, but yes, I'm currently working on stuff that is designed to kill bad guys. It's a choice you may have to make.

Anyway, if you're willing to relocate (I don't know of anything in the twin cities area), send me your resume. My email address is in my profile.

[edited to add:]
I guess my email isn't actually visible, but you can PM me, or contact me through my profile, and I'll reply with my email address so you can attach a resume'.

Thanks for the tip, BigJim, but I'm not going to work for any damn baby killers.

Nah, just kidding. The truth is I'm not really ready to relocate, and the government and I have issues, so they aren't too keen on hiring me.
