Well, I have no problem faulting the media. I have seen way too many science stories get mangled and overinflated.

It actually bugs me because when the media reports that scientists have discovered something or proven something (which they may have done neither) and later the scientists either soften their interpretation or get more information and solidify their interpretation, they are always seen by the public (via the media) to have been wrong the first time!

Then people can lose confidence in scientists because they "always get it wrong the first time" or some such.

I have seen this happen a lot.
