Yeah well even the U.S. no-call list law, as well as those adopted by some states, has loopholes. Charities and political campaigns are exempt, as are businesses with whom you've done business in the past. There are still problems with telemarketers who thumb their noses at the law also. I really didn't appreciate the automated Bush campaign calls...mainly because I can't tell a recording to go fuck itself like I would a live caller. I'd like to see the campaign calls stopped as well, particularly the automated ones.

The Canadian law, as tabled and unamended, has no exemptions. to the Libs for once!

I was at a friend's place the other day. He got the dreaded call during dinner. The following is an abridged transcript:

T: Hello! May I speak to Mr. M_ please?
Mr. M_: I'm sorry, he's not home right now. This is his brother.
T: <Pause> Okay....Can I Call back when he's more likely to be in?
Mr. M_: No.
T: Perhaps I can interest you in ...
Mr. M_: I'm not interested.
T: It'll just take a second...
Mr. M_: Perhaps I was unclear earlier, so I'll attempt to leave no uncertainty in your mind whatsoever. Fuck Off.

Yeah. We were in China during the end of election season. I came home to find 20+ calls on the tape--all either politicians or pollsters.

At least that's better than coming home to find the counter saying 27 and 23 messages on the tape.

Default Anything wrong with this approach?

"Hello, is Mr. X there?"

"Who may I say is calling?"

"I'm Y from the Z company, calling about the Z product."

"Oh, Mr. X was recently telling me that he was interested in the Z product. Just a minute, he's outside. Please hold, I'll go find him."

Lay handset down and return to prior activity.

How about ...

T: Telemarketer
H: Homeowner

T: This is the Republican so & so comittee.
T: Would you please vote for Republican so & so candidate.
H: Have you tried to call those Foriegner H-1B visa holders.
T: What?
H: The massive Foreigners you let into this country,
H: Who take the jobs of citizens.
H: Let the H-1B Foreigners vote for your Republican so & so.
T: But H-1B Foreigners CANNOT vote. That is the law.
H: So you allow massive number of H-1B visa Foriegners
to take jobs from citizens, but they cannot vote for you.
T: I guess.
H: Ask the Foreigners to vote for your Republican candidate
H: Bye lol

These are the only telemarketers I find entertaining to talk to. The Republicans call before elections, several times a night. It is hilarious. It takes them a while to grasp the idea that they are being asked to instead call up the massive numbers of H-1B visa Foreigners to vote for their political candidate, who by law, are not allowed to vote.

Well it is interesting to note that at one point the Repugs outsourced some of their campaign call centers to India. And small wonder that India was one of the few countries that expressed enthusiasm at Bush's "reelection".
