Ladies and Gentlemen,
I just learned this afternoon that Steven McArthur, aka MadMordigan, committed suicide Wednesday night. As all of the regulars will readily attest, he was a vibrant, intelligent and witty man. Although I never got to meet him in person, I was very close to him and never once found a reason to lose my respect and admiration for him. And on top of all that, he made me laugh. I reserve a special place in my heart for those who make me laugh. Those who aren't members of online communities may not understand my grief. Those who are understand it all too well. You don't have to meet someone face to face to love them, because love transcends physicality and distance. Love is about personality, and Steven had that in spades. It isn't fair, y'know. Life. The brilliant, it seems, are cursed with a sensitivity that passes the understanding of common men. Requiescant in pace, Steven. I miss you. d Edited because I got his IRL name slightly wrong. My apologies. To me, it's a Mad Mad Mad Mad Mad World. ![]() [ December 18, 2002: Message edited by: diana ]
|

Less than an hour before hearing the news, I had been using a particularly witty and clever argument of his to help arrange my own thoughts. I've known very few people (I can think of one other, a good friend of mine out here in the real world) who could be simultaneously so intelligent, so funny, and so crude. Damn, I'm going to miss him.

I'm still trying to cope.
All I could do was yell NOOOO! at my monitor. [ December 16, 2002: Message edited by: Mad Kally ]
|

I never knew MadMordie that well, and didn't often correspond with him. But I always found his posts and his way of not mincing words interesting and fun to read. I'll certainly miss having him around. I'm shocked and saddened by this loss.

I still can't think of anything to say. I never really chatted with him but he was one of the posters on infidels I enjoyed reading the most and I was very fond of him in general. I'm sad that I'll never have the opportunity to meet him in person. This world is a far more empty place without him.
Goodbye, Mad. ![]() |
