Sorry, Slavik, the organization basically protects the Bill of Rights -- so, unless your Constitution or Founding Documents (whatever they are) have such a thing, you can't have an organization protecting it. That said, however, I don't think there's a rule against a Canadian being a member and enjoying the publications, conventions, etc.
I used to be on the board here in Boulder, and I resigned when I disagreed with an action they chose to take against IBM. I re-joined when I realized that there could be no such thing as a group with whose ideals I agreed 100% of the time -- and that that's a GOOD thing: 100% agreement only means that you're part of an organization wherein individual members are not encouraged to think for themselves about anything (kind of like a church ). An example of this sort of difference of opinion is: If you belong to the ACLU and also belong to Common Cause, you will find that these two extremely worthy groups have diametrically opposing views on campaign financing -- one view being "strictly constitutional" the other being "stricly for the people."

You can have my ACLU card when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

I think they are generally a good organization, but, IMO, they seem to stick to the typical liberal line regardless of the issues invovled.
Not quite (after all, they have supported the rights of Nazi's to march) but they do tend to get on the wrong side too often.

How does one get on the wrong side defending the Bill of Rights?

What exactly it means to defend the bill of rights is obviously up to some interpretation. If it was crystal clear what they meant, we wouldn't be having so much debate over the topic.

I have belonged for a long time now. And I do not understand the "being on the wrong side" comments.
