Thats what the Church did to choirboys at one time inorder so that their voices wouldn't change.

Just to add a thought is there any other type of man but a human one???

It never fails to amaze me how people like yourself are quick to defend the church while failing to condemn the act itself.

If its any consolation, I live in a predominantly Protestant area of the US and find that "deacons", "brothers", "ministers" and "youth counselors" are equally prone to these offenses provided to them by position of trust. <img src="graemlins/notworthy.gif" border="0" alt="[Not Worthy]" />

It just seems more sensational when the highly ornate and more mystical Roman Catholic priest gets caught because of the pedestal they place themselves upon almost as a separate class of being.

Actually, it wasn't the Church that demanded or oversaw the castrations. Castrati were in demand in both religious and secular venues, but most especially in the secular world of opera.

Successful castrati enjoyed a fair amount of wealth and influence. There were both voluntary and involuntary castrations, but in both cases, the chief motivator was money.

Bill Snedden

My observation was based on sullsters remark that "the scarcity of decent individuals is leading to a state where pedophiles are getting to be priests."

This problem is typical American because that is where the shortage of priests is and many new priests are from other parts of the world. This means that a shortage of priests is not universal.

The reason why the Church defends the priest is because the state is holding the Church responsible and not just the priest. In other words, the priest goes to jail (as he should) and the Church is charged large amounts of money to compensate the victims (as they should).

Do you see now why they would defend the priest?

The problem you will have that by equal treatment all other churches will soon close their doors because they will all be banckrupt for the same reason.

Please don't become a Catholic because our protestant influence is too great already.

Amos, you Canadaophile, horse droppings I say.
You are angry because the USA is a majority Protestant country and as usual you can use the pedophile issue to grandstand your bigoted catholicism.
Horse manure times two with your implication that pedophilia is a protestant corruption of your nasty church. Horse hockey!!!!!!!!!
By the way Canada is a wind blown ice box! I feel better now saying that nonsense to you. Piss off!!!!

The clerical collar is one mighty powerful aphrodesiac!

No alli but if you are going to make statements about the true nature of man it helps that you choose your words carefully. Man is the neuter, human and woman are the genders (the essence) and male and female are the sexes (the essence manifest in existence).
