Jubilation, dismay over ruling on gay sex As word spread yesterday that the Supreme Court had made a landmark ruling striking down a law banning gay sex, local residents expressed both jubilation and dismay. [...] Ken Hutcherson, head pastor of Antioch Bible Church in Redmond, said he agreed with the Supreme Court ruling because "the law was quite silly and archaic in the first place. If you think homosexuality is wrong, ban homosexuality," not a specific, limited act. "It would be equal to: If you don't want blacks in your restaurant, you don't say that. Instead, you ban soul food," Hutcherson said. |

Baptists run the full social range. From Fred Phelps, to the blue-haired mohawk haircut teen taking part in a counter-Phelps demonstration up here. Saying Baptists, as a whole, are open minded or closed minded is a stretch.

Yeah, they are open minded!
There's nothing in that space where a mind belongs. Thus they are open minded. |

I know this has been the nature of religion throughout history and I understand it has to constantly change in order to stay viable and more importantly profitable. But if the religion can change to adjust to social trends of the day then what value does it have? Besides if it were rigid we could all but right it off as a force in America. |

Whoever said Baptists or any other Christian were open-minded? They believe what they believe and stay true to it, or most try anyway.

I'm not so sure about that, ex-idaho. Technically, if I'm not mistaken, the ban on homosexuality is a part of the Jewish law, so it should no more be binding on Christians than the prohibition against eating pork.

Even though I am hetorosexual, I think what people get up to in thier own bedrooms is their own business. I almost seems comical to me how these fundies send the bedroom police around and that is the only issue many of them a pushing.
I think they would be all in favor of every house on the world being set up like "The Big Brother Show" so they can send there swat sqads in to arrest the fags. |
