I'm trying to find the bit that says that the myths of Dionysus were enacted in a non-earthly realm, but I can't find it...

But.

Dionysus, like all Greek gods, lived on Mt Olympus, whose sacred peak was mythical and supernatural. He was fathered by a god onto a mortal woman, yada yada, same old story we all know... with unique variations. See Wiki. Of course, he has a deep earthly connection b.c of his association with the grape and ivy.
