Default Minnesota triumphant!

Nothing but good news. Our conservative, creationist education commissioner has been fired, effective immediately, and the amendment to the state science standards that was written by the Intelligent Design creationists has been squelched. Party time in the far North! Break out the lefse and lutefisk, open up the aqvavit, and get naked in the sauna!

Let's all take a deep collective breath, relax a bit, and prepare for the next wave of irrationality. Pessimistic, yes, but realistic...hopefully after a number of these victories, their attacks and backdoor maneuvers will become more ridiculous and more importantly, more obvious, to the public at large.

Yay for signs of intelligent life in your "corner" of the Earth. Don't forget that the anti-intellectuals haven't really gone away though. They'll just be plotting some other way of indoctrinating people.

PS I heard a wonderful conspiracy theory from someone last week which is very plausible and might be relevant but I haven't been able to find anything about it online so far.

Excellent!

I dunno about the lutefisk, but if it were available to us southern rednecks, I'd give 'er a whirl.

But I'll have some maws and chittlins and a double Black Jack for ya!

Default Congrats Minnesota

Hey Pz, Since I am ignorant of Minnesota politics (as are most Iowans) what is a DFLer? The newspaper article chose not to define the term.

I probably should ask two of my siblings that live in Minnie Apples but I was getting ID / DI confused with what I thought was the Democratic Football League (DFL - get it ). Then I realized that Minnesota doesn't have a professional football team (he-he-he; Go Dolphins!).

DFL=Democratic-Farmer-Labor party. It's our local name for the Democratic party, and represents its roots in a progressive rural constituency.

Wonderful news PZ! I was this close to writing DFL Senator Wiger (he lives across the park from me, and incidentally taught civics at the community college I attended(get this he gave me a D because of my poor attendance even though I earned an A I hated that place)) just to find out what was going on... I watched senate and house coverage on channel 17 whenever possible but never saw anything pertaining to science education. I got scared one day when I did see a commitee of high school seniors giving advice to the legislators... those high school class-presidents always seemed to be the ones holding hands in a circle under the flag before school praying for good grades or whatever it was they were doing. Thank God(figuratively speaking) one of them came out and said they were not going to offer any advice on the evo/creation debate. My dad refers to Yechi (spelling?) as yucky Yechi! At least she is gone. It is telling when the education commissioner's most important legislation is to add Lincoln's interpretations of the Declaration of Independence to the curriculum. I guess even the good news is silver lining to a cloud that still encompasses MN public education... we are still paying higher property taxes to pay for bus transportation of kids that live within 2 miles of schools; just another side-effect of Shrub's glorious tax cuts. I don't think anyone realizes that the $200 they goton their tax breaks just gets soaked up by the state taxes because with the federal tax cuts the states lost funding for education, law enforcement, parks and rec, etc.. so all in all I think we are paying more taxes with the tax cuts then we would be without them. Kerry for president! i guess . One thing is certain we can't stand another four years of Shrub!!!
