Default The Koran contains deliberate lies

The person or people responsible for the creation of the Koran as it exists today deliberately included statements that they knew to be untrue.

... and the life-story of Mohammed has no more validity than the biblical stories about Jesus.

Mohammed was supposed to have died in 642 ad - there is not a trace of evidence for his existence until 690 ad ... and there is also no evidence of the existence of the Koran.

The origins of Islam as we know it today are totally clouded in mystery.

Islam is a religion that maintains its authority by threaten its critics ... any attempt to popularise the study and investigation of early Islam would result in a major outcry by even the "moderate" Muslims.

And how are you going to prove that they knew they were untrue (not that they were untrue)?

People are capable of believing far more outlandish things (e.g. Jesus rose from the dead) so discrediting the Koran's origins may or may not change anything.

I was discussing this topic with a friend of mine the other day. Did Muhammad deliberately lie to his people in order to maintain control on his flock? Or was he a schizo who thought the voices in his head were really some angel called 'Gabriel'?

I dont know the answer to that because it needs closer investigation from a whole another angle. Two cents says he really did have psychological problems to begin with, but then went on making up the rest when he realized his stories brought him power.

From what I have understood, there seems to be many copies of Qur'an. However, they were eventually merge (or perhaps, selectively merge) into one.

There is a nice Wiki about this topic:

Origin and development of the Qur'an
