Hi folks, Does anyone know which publishers are most accepting of book proposals by lay skeptics on issues of religion and Christian Origins? Prometheus would seem to be a no brainer. Does anyone know of any others and what financial arrangements are typically made for first time authors if accepted for publishing. Thanks! Kris |

Publishing is a hard industry to break into, unless you are writing the next Da Vinci Code, or How to Lose Weight and have Better Sex through Biblical Criticism. (Egads, what an idea.) Those with credentials can publish through University Presses, but I gather than even that can be hard. Most of the skeptical books I have seen lately have been self published through lulu.com or some other self-publishing print-on-demand site. |

Thanks Toto. I would assume lulu has a pretty dismal ability to market a book too or that they even leave that up to you. Kris |

That's the modern world. You have to be the author, publisher, promoter, salesman, viral marketer, and distributor. Every job is a sales job.

I'd be interested to know about publishing in general, as I've often thought I might wax lyrical in my retirement, even if it is a distant dream. Despite being a crap writer, everyone has a book in them. With nigh on 6.7 billion people on the planet though it's a pretty competitive market, even amongst only those who believe in religion a. I'd advise starting with a few shorts in some magazine or other media type, your portfolio is probably an important factor in any field. Good luck Krisk10. |
