You've made no real attempt to show how Prince Philip isn't related. They're both cargo cults, they both grew out of existing religious ideas, one most certainly had a real person behind it - why is it so hard for you to draw the conclusion that the other one did also?
It only doesn't make sense, Vorkosigan, if you don't want it to make sense. == End of discussion == |

So, Chris, are you suggesting that Christianity got started before there was a connection to a real person, as in your Prince Philip example above? If so, the HJ isn't the source of Christianity but only a later accretion. If not, then what is the parallel to the HJ-MJ topic?

Accepting that some Cargo cults are earlier than the 2nd World War, the account given of the John Frum movement in the article you linked, does seem to be dating the origins of that specific movement earlier than did observers at the time. This matters because if the John Frum movement itself only started in 1940 then islanders claiming to be Frum are there from the beginning or nearly so . However, if the movement started in the mid 30's then there is a substantial period in which claims are being made about Frum without anyone actually claiming to be Frum. Andrew Criddle |
