Of course, it depends on the severity of the detachment, which is why ‘blow to the head’ will do it -- it’ll come away from the epithelium in a sudden substantial way (big jolt --> big effect).

I wonder why detached retinas don’t seem to be able to heal themselves? Sure, such healing ability would be another of god’s work-arounds, fixing an unnecessary, design-induced problem, but he’s done that sort of thing many times elsewhere. Anyone know if detached retinas can reattach themselves?
