They have even found minor characters in the story like Simon the Magician and Jesus Barabus were there. But not the slightest suggestion of a physical Jesus, by that or any other name.
Not that it matters much, it just means that instead of a legend Jesus is a myth...such a fine distinction that it's hardly worth the effort to make it.

Doesn't Josephus mention Jesus as a troublemaker who was crucified by the Roman authorities? I dunno if that's accurate or not .. it's just the impression I've always got from talking to Christians. I suppose one could say that it's moot because proof of existence is not proof of divinity but I find these things interesting .

Mithraism is fascinating, btw. If you confront a Christian with it - most of them have not heard of it - they will tell you that it was God preparing the world for the advent of Christ by introducing aspects of him into a pagan religion. The words 'clutching' and 'straws' spring to mind.

Does anyone still consider mentions of Jesus in Josephus to be authentic? Last I hear they were attributed to Eusebius and his merry pranksters and were from the fourth and not the first century.

Really? I didn't know that .. about Josephus, I mean. If I had the energy I would confront some Christian friends with that information but not sure I DO have the energy right now .. lately I've been feeling more and more that there's no point in 'debating' with religious people cos what you get is not a 'debate' but a lecture.

The devil created Mithraism before Christianity eh? That's a new one to me How are they so sure that the devil didn't create Christianity TOO?

Yes, he can, and he will, if he would make a list of the "similarities" between Mithraism, and Christianity, so that I can go through them.

Actually, I already know what Mithraism is, and what these purported similarities are, but I want to know which Mithraism he is talking about, and what he thinks Mithraism is, so that I can go through and address it point by point.

There certainly are.
Please keep in mind that there is more than Mithra, there is also Dionysos. Dionysus whose very name means "born again", who turned water into wine, who walked on water and who was the second person of the Trinity. The Hellenistis Trinity. You'll find that even Paul's conversion is part of a religious play about Dionysus dialogue and all

Eazy, I guess you can google Mithraism for yourself so there's no point in me providing you with a list of the similarities between it and Christianity, though I can certainly do so if you like . When you've had a look, tell me what you think?
