Earl,

Can I just say that as someone who bought legal print copies of both The Jesus Puzzle and Neither God Nor Man, that I am very disappointed that you will not be considering writing further material.

I have said before on here that I have examined many cases for a Mythical Jesus, and yours is by far the most thorough and compelling, in my view.

I really hope that Bart Ehrman deals with your work in his forthcoming book and you gain further publicity and readers that way. It deserves to have a wider audience.

I don't really know what else to say other than to repeat what others have said about your work being very worthwhile in its own right.

Getting it on Kindle for a lower price and maybe offering a simplified version as well both seem like really good ideas.

For those interested, I thought I'd start a discussion here. Is it wrong to steal?

Oh, that's a bummer, Earl.

I bought paper copies of all 3 of your books, they're a little dog-eared now :-)

Very sad to hear all this, but yet I see a lot of support here for you, and some good ideas too. I hope something positive comes out of them.

If you had a donate button, I'd use it :-)

Top torrent site shuts down
Quote:
BTjunkie, one of the largest torrent file-sharing sites, shut down voluntarily over the weekend. The service ranked among the top five torrent sites on the Internet and was never involved in legal action, but recent moves against the likes of MegaUpload and The Pirate Bay have influenced BTjunkie’s closure.

“This is the end of the line my friends,” reads a short message from BTjunkie owner, now visible on the site. “The decision does not come easy, but we’ve decided to voluntarily shut down. We’ve been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it’s time to move on. It’s been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best,” the message says.

Well, well, well. Jail for the pirates, at least in Sweden.

Is this what Paul meant when he referred to "God's justice"?

I guess it's a start. Thanks for the link, Toto, and for making my day!

The Pirate Bay will reach an age of 9 years. Experiencing raids, espionage and death threats, we're still here. We've been through hell and back and it has made us tougher than ever.

.....

But what enrages us to our inner core is that the system, the empire, the governments, are still allowed to try to boss you and us around with one law crazier than the other. Do you think they will stop with SOPA/ACTA/PIPA? They will not. Because you won't stop sharing those files. Because we will not stay down. Because no one can turn back time. Together, we are the iron that hardens with each strike.

In this year of the storm, the winners will build windmills and the losers will raise shelters. So flex your muscles, fellow pirates, and give power to us all! Build more sites! More nets! More protocols! Scream louder than ever and take it to the next level!

Victory!
January 18th, 2012 was the largest online protest in history to stop the internet censorship bills, SOPA & PIPA. On January 20th, Congress shelved the bills indefinitely. If they return, we must be ready.
"If they return, we must be ready."

Hmm.

Am I the only one to observe the resemblance: "Scream louder than ever and take it to the next level!"

1. I use the pirate bay, DAILY. It is by far, my most favorite web site.

But then, I am not a big supporter of private property....

2. I have purchased and attempted to comprehend (and failed) one of Earl's books, and I have also read every word written by Earl at this web site. I like Earl, and his ideas, but I have trouble understanding him. It is my problem, not his. Still, if I were to compare Earl's discussions of themes I find interesting, with Bart Ehrman's, (whose work I have never purchased, for I have no money, and use the public library to read his tomes,) I would have to say, that I can close Ehrman's book, and then summarize, out loud, what it is that he had endeavored to explain in that chapter. I am unable to accomplish that simple activity with Earl's book. I close the chapter, and fall asleep.

I do too. I think the more naive people get offended by one thing or another then fall over themselves to support things like SOPA.

I tend to agree with the following comment

Quote:
I certainly think that those who originate music and art deserve to be compensated for their efforts but I'm not sure that the current regulations were put in place so much to aid them as to protect the control and income of larger bodies who may distribute their works.
From here.

There is a problem so...lets let the politicians and the big corporations find and answer for us.And if SOPA is their solution then let's blindly follow it.

^ I never had that problem with Earl's books. I would say that one of the strengths of his books is that they are very well written, - both clear and exciting (like Erhman's; they both convey this sense of discovery). I have a seen a few reviews that agree with me on this point. I have read far worse (and far more dull) from professional academics. It's true that Jesus Neither God Nor Man in particular is quite an extensive case, but the chapters are imho digestible.

I sympathise. This is probably the most helpful thing earl could listen to IMO. He wants to sell more books but his writing style is just not good enough.
His "fan club" here will be mortified but it's true.

I don't really care for the ideas of Ehrman or Doherty but Ehrman is very easy to read compared to Doherty.
I think that anyone would have trouble though, putting Earls ideas into an easily readable form, but I would actually really love to see someone attempt it.

What is the point of this nonsense? Earl wants to sell a few more books. He's not trying to get rich, just sell some books.
The first and by far most obvious place is to improve his style make himslef more easily understood by people.

To be honest though I dont think anyone, even someone who knows how to write well can write this meandering nonsense in anyway that will sell more books.
If you think Im being unfair try and do it.
