Well, since the safety pins start out very small, a standard set of clippers can hatch out a handful of pins. These, of course, mature into the wire hangers. The next step in the life cycle is a bit blurry. There are probably other metamorphoses that take place, but they're wiley creatures, and notoriously hard to study.

This thread should be under Evolution. It fits perfectly. Any chances of moving it ?

Actually it's got two chances- Buckley's and none. Or for those not familiar with the Australian saying "Buckley's chance"- it has a snowball's chance in hell...

Well, it would fit perfectly under the creation heading, too, because it certainly is creative.

Do pairs of socks exist?
A good solution is to buy several sets the same design and colour, so if one gets lost there are still pairs to be worn

Regards,
I do the same thing. One brand of athletic socks, and one brand of dress socks. If I have an extra, I toss it into the sock drawer. Sooner or later, it gets re-mated.

Default Matians are selective about socks

And that claim made by The Institute regarding the residual radiation left by nail clippers is pure crockery since it has not even established a statistically significant correlation between the previous existence of the nail clipper and its being beamed up to the Mother Ship. How do we even know if the nail clipper was instead absorbed by teens rather than the proposed Martian Mother Ship theory? How do we even know that it was nail clippers that left those traces of radiation?
They are also selective about socks. I have mainly black socks, but if one of my other colours goes into the washing machine its that which disappears, not the black one.

Default Regarding wormholes...

I believe the correct term is "bipolar tachyon vortex". And pardon my assumption that it was radiation that was observed to be left behind by nail-clippers since it was second (or third, depending on your species)-hand information that I gained during the convention on the therapeutic applications of socks (my specialization is on old gym socks btw).

I have yet to cross-reference that nail clipper-safety pin-wire hanger theory so I prefer to reserve comments for later.
