				 | Theophilus

hello all to does the beginning of Luc it address his Gospel to Theophilus, which Theophilus? or that there? Patriarch of Alexandria (385-412). or that there? Bishop of Antioch. Eusebius in his "Chronicle" places the name of Theophilus against that of Pope Soter (169-77), thank you for your help |

Severus Sebokht, in his treatise on the Constellations, written ca. 661 AD, repeatedly addresses his reader as "Friend of work" (philoponus) but it would be a mistake to suppose from this that he has John Philoponus in mind. The work was actually written for the priest Basil of Cyprus. All the best, Roger Pearse |
