So then why did my fundy sister who had her marriage certified as being Made in Heaven by the preacher in her bible believing church end up getting a divorce?

And where does Jesus state that a marriage not made in heaven can be treated differently than one that is. Chapter and verse please.

You'd think he'd at least be able to get a stand-in.

Since the divorce rate is 50% there has to be a good number of xians involved, such as my friends in the OP. And in my family, the fundy sister got divorced after 17 years while the atheist sister is married 33+ years and still going strong.

But don't you know that heaven is for Catholics only and can therefore be recognized only in the Catholic Church?

I don't think that free love marriages were recognized 2000 years ago and not until way past the dark ages in the Catholic church for the simple reason that the two must become one (Gen.2:24). I believe that it is this woman that must be reunited with her man (or a close proximity of it) and before this can happen the arrangement must have been made long before it happens.

No chapter and no verse but just Catholic tradition. It gets alot more complicated but I am not about to go into that now.

But wait, I do not think that rational relationships are wrong per se and they should be allowed to get married . . . but perhaps not blessed in the Catholic tradition.

How do they justify it? You'd have to ask them.

To poorly paraphrase Jesus, religion was made for man, not man for religion.

Here are my guesses:

They aren't strict literalist believers, neither is the church they're using.

They want the show, and they view marriage as an event instead of a process.

Just guesses of course, I don't know them.

Love, religion, and rationality don't always mix.
