Default Religions broken down by state - An interactive Map of the US

Here is a link to an interactive map that shows how religions break down by population in each state.

http://www.usatoday.com/graphics/new...gion/flash.htm

Youll need flash player to view it. Its quite interesting, and its nice to see that a few states have "no religion" in the lead .

And Mississippi is over 50% baptist. Jesus, do they get a tax break?

I am not sure that the "no religion" part of this poll is to be trusted. I can't tell you how many hardcore Christians I have met who told me that they have no religion, only a relationship or whatever. Washington, my home state, is in the lead with 25%, and I find the 25% figure a little hard to believe. It is also worth keeping mind that Christians outnumber "no religion" in WA even though "no religion" has the biggest bar. Christianity is broken down into its denominations.

I'd keep in mind that "no religion" doesn't mean atheist. Most of those are probably apathetic theists. From my experience, apathetic theists agree with their religious counterparts on many political issues.

The numbers look like they were from this study:
American Religious Identification Survey 2001

Discussed in:
American Atheists article on it
religioustolerance.org article on it

Washington and Oregon have a majority of non-religious people. Praise god at least some states are sensible here.

No, not a majority. The Christians still outnumber the "no religion" category, but the Christians are broken down by denomination so they look smaller.

In New Jersey, we're number 2: Catholics are 37%, "no religion" is 15%, everything else is lower. Well heck, why can't I get any people to come to the Meetups? ppfftt... Maybe they're just so nonchalant about it that they don't care to socialize?
