ONLY IN ILLUSION CAN THE ELITE AND THE HOI-POLLOI MEET
By New10. The social situation of the Christian churches had scarcely changed by the end of the second century when the philosopher Celsus, in his diatribe against the obscurantism of the Christians, reported: "Christians do not even want to give or receive a reason for what they believe, and use such expression as 'Do not ask questions; just believe,' and 'Thy faith will save thee. ..' Their injunctions are like this, 'Let no one educated, no one sensible draw near. For these abilities are thought by us to be evil. But as for anyone ignorant, anyone stupid, anyone uneducated, anyone who is a child, let him come boldly.' By the fact that they themselves admit that these people are worthy of their God, they show that they want and are able to convince only the foolish, dishonorable, the stupid, and only slaves, women and little children. . .' In private houses, also, we see wood-workers, cobblers, laundry workers, and the most bucolic and illiterate yokels, who would not dare to say anything at all in front of their elders and more intelligent masters." From the book Magic and Religion by George B. Vetter, professor of psychology. Look how far we have progressed in these close to two thousand years. The uneducated, ignorant, stupid, slaves, women and children, wood- workers, cobblers, laundry workers and the most bucolic and illiterate yokels of early Christianity have been replaced by doctors, lawyers, teachers, intelligent and educated professional God men, presidents, ex-presidents, psychotherapists, Congressmen, popes, bishops, teachers and judges that rose to the top like cream in a bottle of milk and the same uneducated, stupid, women and children, wood- workers, cobblers, laundry workers and the most bucolic and illiterate yokels still at the bottom, but both share in their Christianity. This is where the elite and the hoi polloi meet :devil1: |

Greek hoi means “the” (nominative masculine plural). You should say “hoi polloi” without a preceding “the.”
