More likely he wasn't too well acquainted with obstetrics. Why should he know where navels come from?

You see, it wasn't just any dirt. It was special dirt. Since we share 98.6% of our DNA with chimps, Adam was clearly formed from a pile of chimpanzee poo. This is why, without being related to chimps in any way, since no evolution has occurred, our DNA is 98.6% chimp and 1.4% ... Fiber! :devil3:

Hmm... A slight derailment here, but I have a related question here. Is it true that men have one less rib than women? I've heard this said a couple of times even by the non-religious, but never got round to verifying if this is true.

No, its false but some creationists still perpetuate that myth.

I actually know a man who has two more ribs than me. When he told me about it, he was much embarrassed to admit that they are called "cervical ribs". :rolling:

(Yes, I know that's because they're in his neck, which is "cervix" in Latin, but he's still a bit embarrassed about the name... )

I can't say, however, that I know any men who have one less rib. If there should happen to be any men missing ribs out there, they would more than likely have 2 less ribs than 1, because missing just one would seriously mess up your spine, unless the rib were there at the spine and had been sawn off a bit further away from the actual domain of the spine somehow, or something. If all men were missing one rib, they'd be hunchbacks, or have some other type of deformity resulting in really bad posture, I should think. Anyone, male or female, who doesn't have exactly 12 pairs of ribs, has an abnormality or birth defect, which, due to the fact that we weren't "created", happens from time to time. That is just my humble and completely unedumacated opinion.

Btw, my friend with the 26 ribs is perfectly healthy and capable of functioning normally, with the exception of having occasional numbness in his hands.

Just search for x-ray pictures of human chests and you will easily see that there is no difference in the number of ribs between men and women, we both have 12 ribs on each side of our ribcage.

Most people today, yes, because (however much the fundies shout about it) we have sex education. Back then? Even an anatomy student might not have known. Obstetrics is a rather messy, obscene sort of field, below the dignity of a self-respecting educated man. Leave it for the midwives.
