			Did you know about this???????????????????

"Catalan professor Fernando Conde Torrens of the University of La Rioja claims that the entire four books of the NT are late fabrications of Eusebius of Cesarea in the IV century. He found proof not outside the texts themselves but inside, where he found hidden signatures and acrostics that supposedly prove his assertion. His book "Simon Opera Magna" is creating some storm in religious and apologetic circles" I took this from the press, but the guy has a blog in this address: http://simonoperamagna.blogs.com/simon/diario/ Unfortunately it is all in Spanish, no translations available yet. You can check the name of the guy in the Google for a wider scope, also. I'm looking for the book right now. |

All four books of the NT? I assume this means the four Gospels?

It's like my history teacher said: if you want to be famous, be sensational. It's the easy route.

"hidden signatures and acrostics" - sounds like the Bible Code sort of nonsense.

I don't think this will even get him 15 minutes of fame. It's too easy to be sensational these days.

Basically what Mr.Fernando Conde Torrens is saying is that Emperor Constantine "ordered" the gospels. They were allegedly written by one person, a man called Eusebius of Caesarea,Constantine's loyal servant, who actually signed thousands of manuscrits with the name SIMON...for a total of 4500 to 5200 signatures... The first chapter in Spanish is here: http://www.sofiaoriginals.com/simonc...apituloprimero Some more information and a look at the "signatures" in here: http://www.sofiaoriginals.com/Simon.htm The book itself is in Spanish,Editorial:Andromeda SL, and costs 16 euros. I have to read it first to get a better idea, but from Constantine anything is possible... ![]() On Eusebius: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eusebius_of_Caesarea And there click on an interesting character, Apollonius of Tyana... |

From what I could read from the newspaper articles printed in Spanish on his site, he claims to believe that the entire New Testament was penned by one man, Simon aka Eusebius of Caesarea, with some 2000 "signatures" in the Gospels and another 2800-3200 in the rest of the NT. He also claims that the Christian religion was the invention of Constantine; a forteriori, volumes of ante-Nicene literature must be also faked. At least he put in more research hours than Josh McDowell: an impressive 1500 horas.

This is new? I was taught several years ago that the NT was created by Constantine to create a new religion that satisfied the pagan Romans and this new one-god (christian) religion. Example: Pagans had huge parties in december for Mithra's B'day... so make it Jesus's B'day and everyone still gets their party, etc, etc...

Reminds me of that familiar ad absurdum against the apparent age hypothesis of young-earth creationists. How do we know the entire world was not created just this morning, including our own memories of yesterday and before?

This fellow appears to be advocating an apparent age hypothesis for Christian literature. |
