Perhaps you should have been in Geneva during Calvin's time. The church elders had the right to enter your house at anytime (day or night) so as to check that you were 'paying due reverence to the Lord'. Likewise, visitors to Geneva who were here over the weekend were expected to go to a church service on Sunday or else risk being picked up for questioning in front of the same people.
