In Greek Egypt it took on the meaning of land tax, obviously based on the measurement of the land. Cicero used it and I think that was the abstract partner to mathematics...

Yet, now I find in Jastrow's Dictionary of the Targumim, he claims that it comes from a corruption of grammatia (plural of grammateion), originally meaning "accounts". This could be correct and the notion of "divine geometry" only folk etymology. Jastrow indicates that Berakot 8a was already using letters based on their numerical values.
Apparently the practice of gematria was well known to the Greeks from Mesopotamia, but they used the word
isopsephia.

Unknown4 quote: "As for the gematria related claim, is it correct that the three nouns (God, heaven and earth) equal 777 in Hebrew gematria? I'm not sure there's only a single way to calculate gematria in Hebrew. Any information is appreciated. Thanks."

You are on to something important (God, heaven and and earth) 777.
We most nost forget the duality of god (Jesus the son) thus 7 7 7 x 2, i.e 777 + 777. Now 777 is not a sum but three individual munbers, 7, 7 and 7. Thus we have 7+7+7+7+7+7 =

42

but we still do not know the QUESTION :banghead:
