Ah but Catholicism is not a search at all. It's a tradition wherien we are so busy trying to breed the devil that we forget what going to church is all about. That, I would say is the first precondition for "a thief in the night."

I'd say enjoy Peter, and don;t forget, while in Rome do like the Romans do.

Not necessarily. My own ideas and conception about god, religion, myself and spirituality are barely recognizable compared to a few years ago, but I find this a fascinating process. Discarding old ideas, testing new ones, exploring the ideas of others who think totally differently to myself ( I just love this), trying to find what is real and what is not.

What could be more interesting and rewarding?

There is nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade spin, and if anyone here could have bad news for Peter it would be me. But all I can say is "enjoy Peter" and use the 4 letter word if you have to.

Perhaps Peter can take comfort in the fact that some of the most brilliant minds in science and philosophy went through episodes like this. Its simply part of the human condition and it is not permanent. Just hang in there Peter. Times of confusion lead to times of clarity. After the dawn comes the sunshine.
