I have always said the Bible was errant. Never have changed my mind on that one.

So what do you do with an errant, man made document, dinked around with so many times, corrupted massively for 300 years, much of it pitched out for political reasons -------which attempts very erratically and very errantly to describe supernatural happenings that did happen 2000 years ago?

You do the best you can is what you do. You pick and choose is what you do. Hell -----that is the history of Biblical Christianity--picking and choosing.

And I can pick and choose as well as anybody. With the aid of the Holy Spirit

You asked for a biblical verse against your doctrine. What's the point? Won't the "Holy Spirit" just tell you that the verse is one of the false ones? What's the point of your challenge for a contrary verse if it won't persuade you otherwise?

You say there's booze in heaven--is that from the Bible or did the Holy Spirit tell you directly?

best,
Peter Kirby

Booze in heaven is just a sin of omission by the Bible.----- Along with unlimited orgasms and all the rest. Give me a hole and I will fill it up.

And no --I have to admit that the Holy Spirit didn't make a point of suggesting those things. I just like the idea myself.

I could be wrong of course------maybe Heaven is a dour place with no sex and no booze just like Magus says.

But I like to look on the bright side. I like my way better. And nobody knows for sure anyway.

Cool Mark Twain to the rescue!

Twain's already explained it all in "Letters From the Earth".

All the singing, harp twanging, etcetera. Get a copy.

I propose that your handle be "Feel-Good BAC." Because that is how you choose your beliefs, as you describe it above--you pick what sounds nice, as opposed to what can be argued rationally.

When you are given almost nil guidance from the scriptures as to what heaven is like, how can you argue anything at all about the subject rationally?

I would assume that heaven is a pleasant place at the very least. As far as how it is pleasant and what that pleasantness entails is up to anyone's imagination, isn't it?

Your guess or Magus's guess or anybody's guess is just as valid as mine.

And I like mine. Plan to keep it until I find out otherwise.

When you have no data, and you want to be rational, all you can do is say "I don't know." Your attempt at justification of your version of heaven is called an argument from ignorance.

Hey Rational BAC,

I was just wondering, why do you feel a need to make heaven so fantastic (in the etymological sense of "fulfilling human fantasies")? I mean, I don't need to resort to such things to confirm my belief that we live in a sane universe, and not some Camusian pessimist's world. You sound like some computer-programming major telling his friends how great it will be when he makes it. It would seem that a secure self-image does not go hand-in-hand with bragging about your future mansion.

Sorry, but in some ways you seem to be an insecure theist. I would never suggest, as others have done, that you are here because you have a secret wish for deconversion. Perish the thought! But I do think you seem to be here in an effort to prove something to yourself. I don't know what that something is, or whether it's true, or whether you're succeeding in proving it to yourself. But I just thought I'd say it.

And BTW, I don't deny that I may be just the same. In the sense of trying to prove something to myself with my posts here, I mean. The theists of IIDB in general are this way, and we GRD regulars may be the worst.

Proposing amendments to RBAC's handle seems to be a popular past time here on II.

Personally I prefer "Rationalise BAC," because rationalisation is the only option open to him regarding his beliefs.

It is intereseting to note that RBAC could take a short cut and experience Heaven on Earth right now. There is no shortage of TV, booze, crisps and sex on EArth.

@RBAC:
In a strangely satisfying reversal of Pascal's Wager, why don't you put yourself into Heaven right now with all these eminently available desirable experiences, just in case you find out that you're wrong when you die?

There are no crisps in Florida, only potato chips, so how can he have heaven?
