Default Pompeii Graffiti

So I have heard and read that before the eruption of the volcano in pompeii in 79, there was graffiti of a man on a cross with the head of a donkey, futhermore there is someone bowing down worshiping it. Below the worshipper it says: 'Anaximenes worships his God'. I was wondering if I could get help in finding a picture of this graffiti. I have tried several times and havn't been sucessful. I am considering getting it tattooed onto my back. Any help would be great ~ Best regards - Eggnogstick

Only a few Christian sites have that misspelling. It's "Alexamenos worships his God." If you google that phrase in Google images, you will find this.

eta: an actual photo is here, although you can barely make it out.

This is not to indicate that I would encourage anyone to use this for a tattoo.

What I do know you will find on the walls in Pompeii, is PORN. And lots of it and very explicit too!

The first image says ''..end of 2C''
The second says "Palatine Rome 240AD"
Another relates it to the Jews.
What leads people to say it is from Pompeii thus pre 79ce?

I heard there was a bit that said:

'Romanes Eunt Domus' crossed out and replaced with

'Romani Ite Domum' a hundred times in letters ten feet high, all the way around the palace.

If I recall, that was in Jerusalem, and not Pompeii.

Not Pompeii before 79, but the Palatine hill (Rome) around 200.

From the slave-barracks on the Palatine. I'm told that it is in the Palatine hill museum, and I did look for it but it is not well-signposted.

All the best,

Only one, as far as I could tell from google. I've emailed and asked them to correct it, since no-one benefits from misinformation of this sort going around.

This gives more info on the graffiti itself and a clearer picture- not in Pompeii, where there is little to suggest a Christian presence, but in Rome,as already said. There is little Christian in Pompeii other than one or two pieces of graffiti that are debated in terms of their meaning. Plenty of images of Priapus though.
