Mark 11.6 (cf Mt 11.24, Lk 10.12)

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Leaving aside the matter that nothing like this appears at Mk 11:6 or anywhere else in Mark for that matter -- and that this is hardly an exact quote of either Matt 11:24 or Luke 10:12, I have to ask:

How is this statement from Jesus about the consequences of the non repentance (refusal to adopt the pattern of faithfulness to the God of Israel that Jesus called Israel to accept) of Capernaum (and Bethsaida and Chorazin) in any way the same thing as a notice by a NT author that "if you do not believe their story, you will burn in Hell?

Jeffrey Gibson
Ok, Jeffrey, my mistake on Mark, misnumbering the verse (should be 6:11) and taking the expanded KJV version without looking. My apologies.

For the rest, I must say, I don't understand your objection. Jesus threatens whole cities (,and no Lot to plead for the righteous ones there,) with brimstone and fire (and worse), for their non-compliance with his demand for repentance. It is written up by unknown gospellers and offered as word of God. The implication clearly is that if you don't believe their story (and do not confess Jesus Christ as your Saviour) you will burn in hell on judgment day like the cities that did not yield to their Saviour. No other reasonable inference can be made, if you read this as a non-Christian.

Is there something of substance I am missing ?

I agree with you!
The words of Jesus Christ are actually the words of the unknown authors. These unauthenticated authors appear to be 'fronting' for some higher authority, they subliminally propagate their threats of hellfire and damnation through a fictitious but believable figure of Jesus Christ.

These cunning authors have set for themselves three, supposedly impenetrable, walls of defense to cover their fictitious stories.

The first defence, the Spirit. Mark 3:29, 'But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

The second defense, The flesh. 2 John 1:7, 'For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This a deceiver and a anti-christ

The third defense, The word.Luke 4:4, 'And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

The unknown authors of the NT have pulled off the incredible. They have managed to develop a religion based on fiction that cannot be challenged. Any challenge results in spiritual death. Now we have the true meaning of the Trinity

Dear [whoever], by I agreeing with you that the threat of damnation for un-belief is present and prominent in the New Testament, I am not agreeing that the suggested eschatological molestation was made in a consciously fraudulent, self-interested scheme, as you seem to suggest.

The authors of the NT are un-named individuals.
This is not a fact. With the exception of the gospels, Acts and Hebrews, all of the NT books carry an authorship claim. The claim may be disputed, but it's there.

No-one can ascertain if the authors are one and the same person.
Of course no one's trying to ascertain this, since no credible scholar believes this.

Quote:
No-one can vouch for the veracity of the authors.
This is a fairly meaningless statement. You judge the veracity of the authors by the truthfulness of their claims, not by someone else's character analysis.

Quote:
The unknown author named Matthew falsely claim that prophecies are in the OT about a character named Jesus Christ.

the unknown authors of Mark, Luke, John and the epistles also make similar false prophetic claims.

<snip>
The above may all be true, but it has little bearing on the question of HJ. Consider this - a fundy friend of yours tells you about a man named Oral Roberts. He claims that at various times:

- Oral has healed the sick.
- Oral has raised the dead.
- Oral has made true prophecies about the future.
- Oral communicates directly with God.
- Oral saw a 90-foot Jesus.

That should be enough information right there for you to confidently tell your fundy friend that this character Oral Roberts is fictitious, right?

No-one can say with any certainty when Jesus Christ was born, not even the unknown authors.
That's true for almost every historical figure of ancient times. Name the year that Pontius Pilate was born.

We know that John the Baptist lived despite not knowing when he was born. If you based your judgement solely on the legendary tale in Luke then you would have to conclude that he was a mythic character.

If I were to write an article about you that I know was false, or had information that was contradictory about you and still published that information publicly, swearing by God the information is true, it would be considered a deliberate malicious act, subject to civil or criminal litigation.

The compilers of the NT have publish material that is totally fictious under the guise of 'truth'. The publishing of the document called the NT was a deliberate act, it was not coincidental. The compilers of the book tried to portray a person named Jesus Christ as a Son of God that was actually born and lived, as a real human being.

All the authors are anonymous, we cannot ascertain their credibilty, or their souces. The authors are not known to have written any other literary works. The authors have contradicted themselves in both chronolgy and the magnitude of events. The authors appear to have copied from one another. The story of Jesus Christ is similar to other stories prevalent at that time.

The story of Jesus Christ was characterised as fiction as early the 2nd century by Celsus. Jesus Christ's method of healing and raising of the dead was already known to be improbable by the medical fraternity of the day. Hippocrates, as early as the 400 BCE, claimed that no sickness is a result of divine intervention, likewise the cure.

So, the compilers of the NT already knew in advance of publication that the information is more than likely to be false, yet the NT was published. The authors appear to be cowards, they have refused to put their names. The NT is an unconscionable act.

Jesus Christ is fiction.

Can you name the authors? I have been trying for a long time to get their real names.

Now, just substitute Oral Roberts with Jesus Christ and see what happens.

Jesus Christ was fictitious, not historic. I cannot tell you when Pontius Pilate was born, but I know there is false info about the birth of Jesus Christ in the NT.

The NT contains false information about a lot of people, real or imagined. Without extra-biblical corroboration, everyone in the Bible would be characterised as mythical. The Bible is completely without credibilty, no-one can vouch for its authenticity.

And by the way, you seem to know about the historicity of John the Baptist, I wish you could have said the same about Jesus Christ, the fictitious one.

Take heed to yourselves .... but I will show to you, whom ye may fear; Fear him who, after the killing, is having authority to cast into GEHENNA; yes, I say to you, be afraid of this one.
Luke 12:1,5

But for the cowards and unbelievers and abominable and murderers and pornos and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake burning with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.
Rev. 21:8.

Can you tell me when Pilate died? Are you suggesting that if there is false information about someone that that in and of itself is reason to conclude that this person is fictitious and never existed?

Jake, remember that he's talking here to the disciples, telling them not to worry about getting hassled by the authorities. It's somewhat in the vein of a sargeant-major's pep talk to the troops: "listen, ladies, get out there and do the job. Don't worry about the enemy, worry about me."

HI No Robots,

Jesus apparently would throw the disciples into Gehenna as quick as a snap.
