This is somewhat my line of thinking. Since the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) is the story telling the historical relationship between God and the Hebrews then maybe it is only referring to the Hebrew world. That would put the Adam and Eve beginning of mankind as the beginning of the historical ancestors of the Hebrew race. This would also make "world" events mentioned in the bible more confined to Hebrew world events.

I am not well versed in Judaeism so if I am wrong, correct me. I had heard that Adam's first wife was a Canaanite woman. After Adam divorced her, God created Eve to be his helpmate. Cain then married one of the gals from that city. Perhaps the religious writings that the Jewish people have is nothing but a starting point for their belief system and the Christian Bible is nothing more than a rip off that people are taking way too seriously?Ie creationalism...Jewish folks don't believe the creation story like the Christians do, do they? Just some thoughts, probably erroneous...

Adam's first wife was Lillith, she was given the godly boot because she liked to take a um, more dominant position during sex. Then Eve cam along, from the rib yada, yada, yada.

Cain's wife was said to come from the land of Nod. The stories seem to fit the context of the times, namely that this particular god created these particular people. All those others, they were created by their own gods. This also fits in context with Yahweh saying he is a jealous god, worship no others. Makes sense to me anyway. I could be a bit off the mark though. Anyone have any info on Nod? I'd like to look into it.

Off to google!

Nod

Cain makes his lonely way into a region called "the land of Nod, on the east of Eden." Wherever Nod is -- the name is from the Hebrew for "wandering" -- we are meant to infer that it's a bleak place indeed, and that east is not the best direction out of Eden. English punsters ignored these dire facts, however, when they began using "the land of Nod" as a humorous metaphor for "sleep." . . . .

What Christians call the Old Testament is the Hebrew Testament that was canonized by Jewish authorities in the first century A.D. The first five books, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy make up the Jewish Torah.

Jews also leas heavily on traditional interpretations of the Torah and the Prophets that are in books called the Talmud. Talmudic interpretations of Mosaic Laws is what Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for teaching.

Lilith is a Gnostic creation injected into Jewish mythology most likely during one of the times when the Jews were occupied by or living amongst pagans. Female idoltry is prevelant with pagan beliefs and the Gnostics have been keeping the pagan female deities active for several millenia. The basis of Gnostism is to water down monotheism with paganistic female deities so as to take away from the alleged masculinity of God.

Lilith is also considered the mother and creator of witches by some.

The Hebrews were always living amongst "pagans." And worshipping as they did. Asherah was in the Temple more often than she was not.

Female idoltry
Calling goddess worship idolatry is sexist and Christo-Yahwist-centric.

No, that is not the basis of gnosticism! Ridiculous. Gnosticism is looking at esoteric wisdom instead of outer, surface or literalist teachings.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

In this passage God is speaking in a plural sense. Since God is not a physical entity, but rather spiritual, I would think that God was stating that man should be spiritual like He/They are. Who are the others? We are not told but Christianity uses this to make claim that Jesus was there in the beginning with God and is part of the "us/our" usage of identifying God.

My feelings are that mankind was on earth way before Adam and Eve. These two don't come into the story until the second chapter of Genesis, after mankind has already been made in God's image.
This was my assessment of Cain’s wife as well. Some will argue that chapter 2 is a “recap of chapter 1, but under analysis that assumption doesn’t hold. I do believe that all of mankind was created in the 6th “day. (maybe evolution, maybe not, time is relative, so a day may not be our kind of day. After all, there was a first day, when there wasn’t even an earth yet, supposedly)

It is evident from the many generations documented in the bible that Adam and Eve were specifically for which the bloodline of Christ was to come through. Which is further evident from the lack of keeping generations record after his birth.

It is also evident that this is the intention at the time Adam and Eve were driven from the Garden. The verse that says Cherubims were placed at the East of the garden to “keep the way of the Tree of Life. Well, Christ is referred to in the Bible as the Tree of Life, and East of the Garden is where Cain left into the land of Nod (which later are known as the Canaanites). Keeping them from going that way may have been to protect the bloodline of Christ.

Even from a simple reading it becomes very obvious that Adam and Eve were not the first and only people on the planet, but had a different purpose.

Gee, I wonder who believes the Gnostic writings and rhetoric?
