It seems the book is real, after all.

I assume it will cost you 6 dollars to read that Galatians 1:19 says that Paul met the brother of Jesus, so Jesus of Nazareth existed.

As a leading historicist, Ehrman naturally was unaware that Luke/Acts never makes any mention of Jesus having a brother called James.

Bart's first reaction was that everybody knew who the author was referring to.

As always, there is silence because everybody knew everything anyway....
How can I buy it in PDF or similar??

Did Jesus Exist?

The Historical, Non-Religious Argument for Jesus of Nazareth
By Bart D. Ehrman

And Bart's answer is ............................... Doh!

Quote:
Yes, the historical Jesus of Nazareth did exist.

Known as a master explainer with deep knowledge of the field, Ehrman methodically demolishes both the scholarly and popular arguments against the existence of Jesus. Marshalling evidence from within the Bible and the wider historical record of the ancient world, Ehrman tackles the key issues that surround the popular mythologies associated with Jesus and the early Christian movement.

Those committed to the "non-existence" theory will need to read this formidable scholar's counter argument while the more traditionally minded will enthusiastically support Ehrman's definitive answer to the question. Perfect for the vigorous online debating community, this eBook original will be a must read for anyone interested in Jesus, the Bible, and the birth of Christianity.

When was it found out that the arguments against the existence of Jesus were POPULAR?

Hi aa5874,

My response to your question would be the time in the 4th century when Constantine published the Bible. According to Eusebius, the unbelievers ridiculed the Bible in Alexandria as part of the Arian controversy. Also at this time, the Gnostic Gospels and Acts, which portrayed at times a docetic Jesus, and which were apparently very popular with the common people, appear with great frequency. So in terms of historical reception, I think it is reasonable to think that arguments against the existence of Jesus became POPULAR immediately after Nicaea, and the massive authoritative publication of Jesus to the Eastern Empire.

Quote:
I think Ehrman found out too late.
I dont think it has dawned on Erhman and others, HJers and MJers, that the docetic Gnostics did not believe in an historical jesus, and that therefore the history of the mythical jesus actually goes back to these gnostics, who were deemed heretics by the powerful orthodoxy and, in the course of many centuries, executed, killed and persecuted. (because it was bad for the HJ Belief Business)

Quote:
Any book written by anyone in support of HJ, Scholar or not, can be DEBUNKED with EASE using extant written sources of antiquity.

Will somebody please tell me that all the conspiracy references are just marketing hype?

If Ehrman himself thinks all mythicists are conspiracy theorists, then this book is bound to be just one long straw-man argument.

Gee the book is not out already, so prespeculation may be premature.

In any case, there is not going to be a killer book that vanquishes either the Hj or JM.

You are referring to: "...this nagging question that has become a conspiracy theorist cottage industry the world over." Certainly not true for all mythicists, but it seems like a fact all the same. Have you seen the film Zeitgeist? Are you familiar with the book The Christ Conspiracy: The Greatest Story Ever Sold (or via: amazon.co.uk)? Yeah, doesn't represent you--just a heckuva lot of mythicists out there.
