I didn't make it multiple choice because it's a continuum. I can't see someone picking a higher option and not a lower one except possibly the mental threat one.

Moderately PC and have a wife currently entering the third trimester. There's no excuse for third trimester abortions apart from medically necessary, because people don't magically show up seven months pregnant one day.

Defects aren't a valid excuse as the vast majority of any sort of major defect can be detected far earlier (for instance, ultrasound at twelve weeks can lead strong support for Downs).

Some can be picked up, not all. And it's not her fault if the doctors miss it.

I would say that when it comes to severe birth defects it should be based on when it's picked up.

Actually.. they do.

I have a friend who just found out she's 7 mos Pregnant.. I haven't gotten the full story from her.. I know she's got alot of medical issues so that's probably part of it. She just sent out a mass email to her group of friends w/ the announcement..

She's going to have it.. but it's going to be touch and go both for her and the baby.

Well I'll be damned. I've heard of incredibly obese people not realizing they were pregnant before, but such thing is a rarity that regularly makes the odd news reel.

Some time ago on here there was someone who had cancer. The pregnancy was only picked up when someone finally noticed the positive pregnancy test in the file (it had been done before chemo was started, somehow nobody saw the result.) IIRC it was something like 6 months along when the discovery was made. Of course it was aborted.

For a normal, healthy woman with regular periods it's not going to happen but someone with medical issues might not see the symptoms. There also have been athletes that didn't notice it until it started to show as their periods were irregular enough anyway.

I knew a girl in college who was 20 when she got pregnant, average build, found out when she called 911 in labor and the paramedics told her.

There are so many physical and emotional changes that one goes through over the course of nearly ten months, so for someone of 'average' build who I'm assuming to be free of any other serious medical conditions, I can't imagine what that person would possibly think is happening over that span. I'm at a loss as to how a person could be that out of touch about their body. But still, assuming you don't find out until labor, does that justify infanticide?

The fact that YOU can't imagine it, is irrelevant. Utterly.

You've been told it happens. There you have it. Don't you think?

I know of, I dunno, half a dozen women who didn't know until delivery. Another score who didn't know until after 5 months. These are not stories of strangers, they are personal acquaintences or their immediate fmailies.

Can't you just accept the facts that it happens?

In addition, it also happens that people can't raise the money immediately.

What motivates someone to "lazily" stay pregnant when they don't want to be? So their food bill can go up? because they like peeing at 2am (and 4 am and 6am)? So their sciatica can flare? So their blood sugar can skyrocket?

Why *DO* you think people stay pregnant when they don't want to be pregnat - and how often do you think this happens, and what data leads you to believe this frequency?

Hi Rhea, how is your day going?

I don't believe I ever refused to accept it. It's quite clear that it happens, though I imagine it is incredibly rare in the scheme of things.

I don't believe I stated people stay pregnant when they don't want to be.

My sole point is that as the limit of viability is ~24 weeks, abortion at 24 weeks or later is, for me, morally equivalent to infanticide. If you wish to discuss whether or not infanticide is ever justifiable, thats fine, but we should probably move to a new thread.

Have a good evening,

Matt

I'm a woman and a mother, and I have *never* been able to understand how a woman at 7 months couldn't feel the baby kicking!!??? Sure, up to about 4-5 month or so, you might not know if your periods are irregular. but once that baby starts moving, there's nothing else like it. Plus breast changes....

I just don't buy it.....
